Lesson 06: Seeing the Whole Wide World with Storyteller Extraordinaire Daniel Simmons (Now at 100+ Countries!)

If you love a great travel story, Daniel Simmons not only has them but is also a fantastic storyteller and even crossed the 100+ country travel mark this year. Working as an English teacher based in Tokyo for over 10 years, Daniel has used his flexible schedule to travel to a wide variety of exotic places with a particular focus on getting to know the locals and broadening his perspective of the world including places that the media would call “dangerous”. Daniel has also made a habit of reading literary works from local writers and non-natives of the countries that he visits before his trips as a way to get a deeper understanding of the local mentality. In the School of Travels, Daniel would already have his PhD by now, and I hope that you enjoy the stories and tips that “Dr. Daniel” shares with us.

What we cover in this episode:

• Why it’s important to keep a sense of humor while traveling
• How bird poop can be magical
• Shopping for volcanoes
• Traveling with a baby in…North Korea
• Visiting the Galapagos of the Middle East
• How to bond with the locals
• Reading about a place while you’re in that place
