Episode 77: Being a Digital Nomad in Japan with Akina Shu – Part 2

Hello listeners! Welcome back to the School of Travels podcast. Today, I am making good on my promise to have former guest Akina Shu back on the podcast for Part 2 of our conversation.

Akina Shu is a nomad from Yokohama, Japan who has made it part of her mission to introduce the concept of digital nomadism to Japanese companies. Having an interest in learning English since university, Akina has also started her own podcast, Nomad University. If you haven’t listened to Part 1, be sure to check out Episode 73 to learn more about Akina’s backstory.

For Part 2 today, we are going to cover something that most travelers have never experienced – what it’s like to be a digital nomad in Japan!

Akina spent a year traveling around Japan working from different locations and we will talk about how she found accommodation, how coliving spots typically services typically work in Japan, and some of Akina’s favorite places to work around the country. Have you ever dreamed of working remotely from Japan? Well, let’s learn about how to do it right now.

One more thing I want to mention that Akina did not discuss: be sure to check the visa rules for your own country before entering Japan. Before the pandemic, many foreign citizens could enter Japan visa-free and stay for 90 days, but the pandemic has changed the rules for many countries and it may take a while for things to return to the way they were before for tourism in Japan.
